Mary Gilmore Kenny

Mary Gilmore was born to the parents of W. Patrick Gilmore and Julie Ann Harrington about 1865 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Mary was nearly deaf, but she could read lips. Mary married Thomas F. Kenny in 1890. Thomas was a bricklayer by trade and traveled quite a bit. There seems to be some stories that were never told about the relationship between Thomas and Mary and their children. I do know that at least one of their children, Lee R. Kenny, swore never to drink, after seeing what alcohol did to his father.

Mary did quite a bit of sewing to help with expenses. Thomas wasn't always home, in fact for periods of time, he didn't live with the family.

Mary's father Patrick, W. Patrick Gilmore, marched with General Sherman in the civil war to the
sea. He served in the Union Army as a priest.
